Our take

IT Leaders Share Insights at CIO/HT + Revenue Sharing Summit

A panel of health IT leaders from four organizations gathering at Becker’s Hospital Review Annual CIO/HT + Revenue Summit in Chicago pointed to three major areas of focus for IT: strategy, talent development and retention, and big data and analytics. Mergers are heightening the need for achieving interoperability, requiring strategic and innovative solutions. Finding top IT talent with technical knowledge, healthcare experience and an understanding of process is increasingly challenging, especially for rural hospitals. Pulling data together from disparate sources in a meaningful way to provide on-demand provider insights presents additional challenges.

The panel offered suggestions on how to address these challenges. Their advice: build people and technology intellectual capacity, focus on flexibility in managing people and using tools, and ensure that appropriate investments are made in healthcare technology to drive improvements in the patient experience and quality outcomes.
