A recent EDM Forum report points out that, while there is consumer interest, technical and political barriers are limiting the ability for healthcare providers to better engage with patients through mHealth options. The technology is there; supposedly, interest exists. Yet, somehow, healthcare providers are failing to engage patients in meaningful ways, according to this report. What are the barriers and how can you overcome them?

There are a variety of barriers that will need to be overcome, including lack of engagement among certain patient populations who may not even have access to technology to enable these types of interactions. Each health system’s adoption experience will be different and will depend on patients served, areas of focus and ehealth strategies. Provider acceptance is another critical factor in engagement; without provider support, effective engagement is unlikely.
