India’s Practo plans to take global healthcare online

Practo Technologies Private’s audacious goal of bringing order to India’s chaotic healthcare system is starting to bear fruit, helping to transform it into the country’s biggest online medical network. Now, the startup is planning to go global.

Our take

Disruption Out of India

It’s a bold initiative, but it seems to be making inroads. Practo Technologies, a Bangalore-based firm, is offering access to doctors and diagnostic labs online—from cardiologists to neurologists, and more. So far, 200,000 doctors and 10,000 hospitals are on board. Their efforts have attracted the attention of investors like Google Capital. What implications might these online offerings have for your health system?

Technology makes just about any industry a virtual or global industry and healthcare is proving to be no exception. Practo has already indicated plans to expand into other countries, including Brazil, the Philippines and Singapore. If the model gains traction, the United States could be next.
